It's been seven years since the war ended. Seven long, tiring, hard years, for everyone. Yet, there's still the hope of better days -- and indeed, they're coming!
The Earth Kingdom is now going through a time of prosperity and joy -- the war is finally over, and Fire Nation troops pulled out of their lands in their entirety a little over a year ago! Toph Bei Fong has begun to travel the world in order to teach metal bending -- and the rightful, just Earth King is back on the throne. Even the Fire Nation colonies -- or what was left of them -- are settled! All is good.
Or is it?
The Fire Nation has begun a long and tedious progress of de-militarization, leaving thousands without a job or trade. And along with that, there's still the stray Ozai and War supporters that Fire Lord Zuko has yet to crush. However, there's still hope -- as the Fire Nation shows the world more and more of it's technology, everyone has been benefiting and scientists and inventors the world over have begun to study and improve upon the technology, making the Fire Nation a possible hub for future knowledge and advancement.
And then there are the Water Tribes -- the North has become much less isolationist thus far, and has been sending drones of their people to help rebuild their weak sister tribe of the South. The South, in turn, has become much more advanced -- however, full recovery is far off. Then there are the abandoned Air Temples -- or atleast, partially abandoned. The Northern Air Temple is buzzing with activity, and although there are no air benders born into their midst thus far, they've been making great leaps in technology. The Kyoshi Warriors too, have been making good progress -- recruits have been building up by the day, and Ty Lee and Suki haven't a day to themselves nowadays!
Yet there's still strife -- politicians still meet daily in the nation's various capitals (mainly the Imperial Palace and Ba Sing Se) to decided war reparations, where refugees should go, where food shipments should be sent. The topics go on for miles, really. And then there are the mixing of cultures -- as politicians travel, they often face a cold crowd, as there is still fear and loathing on both sides of the pond. Plus, the immigrants of the Fire Nation traveling to the Earth Kingdom for better job opportunity and standard of living has caused some major tension as of late -- especially in the poor, uneducated, and crowded dregs of Ba Sing Se.
Thus, it has been decided that a city not far off from the Fire Nation's and Air Temple's shorelines will be erected, and called Republic City in order to promoted co-existence and peace. However, this is sadly still in it's planning stages, and the Avatar . . . well he has his hands full as it is.

Good luck anyways! Don't let the flying Lemurs eat your mangos!
